Writing a blog for my student teaching journal has been a good experience all and all. After keeping the blog for about a month, I wanted to reflect on the process of writing on the web and making my thoughts public.
I think that the journal/blog experience is an excellent way to organize your thoughts and to think about what has transpired that day/week.
Having the blog and it being so public leaves me a little wary of giving out information on the web, even if the information is not confidential. I know that some younger users having no problem sharing all aspects of their life story minute by minute on the web. I am a little more guarded and view the web as an open book. I know that whatever I write or share can be viewed later and may have some ramifications.
This afternoon I instructed students how to get on an eBook site for their History class. I was able to show the eighth graders how to navigate within their eBook site and gave an overview so that they could use this website in conjunction with their classroom book. I felt that I did an OK in explaining the site, but need to improve for the future. I was unfamiliar with the content of the website and had an hour to become familiar with it. I will make sure that I do a better next time with this demonstration.
I was able to use a class management software(Vision-http://www.techedu.com/GenevaLogic_Vision-Edu.asp) to monitor the students for their eBook demonstration. This software, as well as others I have used, allow the computer instructor to lock up and monitor students during a classroom. Certain features within the software allow the instructor to monitor students while they are using the computers, to lock out users and the ability to shut down all computers at once at the end of the day.
